HISTORY

Leo Catholic High School was named in honor of Pope Leo XIII, the man chosen to succeed Pope Pious IX in 1878. Pope Leo XIII was a man of strong faith and relentless determination. He set himself firmly on the side of the working man during a turbulent time in our world history.

Leo Catholic H.S. opened its doors under the spiritual and educational guidance of the Christian Brothers of Ireland in 1926. The ensuing years brought record enrollment and notable academic achievement. Cultural activities and athletic prowess served to win national acclaim for Leo and began the development of a tradition of which all graduates, faculty, and the City of Chicago can be justifiably proud.

In its more eighty (80) year history, Leo Catholic High School has continued to offer and provide a quality college preparatory education to young men from every community in the city and surrounding suburbs. Leo students matriculate to prestigious colleges and universities around the country.

Leo Catholic High School administrators and students revere the values and accomplishments of the past, while always striving to secure the future success of our institution. With the continued support of its great Alumni, Leo Catholic High School will always represent its motto,

"Deeds not Words."
